History of The Arena

For more than a century, the Shawville Arena has been at the heart of our community. Located on the historic Shawville Fairgrounds, the arena represents generations of local pride, volunteerism, and tradition.

The story of hockey and community gatherings on the fairgrounds began in 1913, when the first indoor skating rink was constructed. The original arena quickly became a gathering place for local hockey games, skating, agricultural events, and countless community celebrations. As Shawville grew, so did the need for a larger and more modern facility.

The current Shawville Arena, owned by the Pontiac Agricultural Society, was constructed in 1960, with the ice surface added a few years later. Since its opening, the Municipality of Shawville has operated the arena, which has welcomed thousands of athletes, families, volunteers, and spectators through its doors.

Today, the arena remains one of Pontiac’s most cherished community facilities. It serves as the home of minor hockey, figure skating, public skating, school activities, tournaments, agricultural events, fundraising initiatives, and countless community gatherings. For many residents, some of their greatest memories were made inside these walls—from learning to skate for the first time to celebrating championships and lifelong friendships.

The Shawville Arena is more than just an ice rink. It is a symbol of the community spirit that has defined Shawville for generations. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, local organizations, businesses, and supporters, it continues to be a place where traditions are celebrated, memories are made, and future generations can come together to enjoy sport and community life.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to preserving this important landmark while ensuring it continues to serve the Pontiac region for many years to come.
